city of Brugge (Bruges)

city of Brugge (Bruges), an hour away from Brussels,
This beautiful city transports you to the Medieval ages with its gingerbread
houses and cobble stoned streets and horse chariots doing the rounds...
The church spires and buildings look really really old (and whisper
tales of gore :) and every now and then one hears the church bell gong.
Its a kind of city where a knight in an armour would blend with the
surroundings and you feel soldiers could pop out of any corner and throw
you into the dungeons on the orders of the king. This city is called the
"Venice of the North" with canals running through the city and is a must
visit when going to Belgium. The historic centre of Bruges is a UNESCO
World Heritage Site. The bistros on this city square serve a variety of
sea food, but with prices in double figures this is something I had to
skip although had Belgian waffles with rasberry sauce and whipped cream
and it was yummy, had to order another one, this time with chocolate
sauce :) Also, this place boasts of some of the best beer in the world
to wash down your meal.

the moment lightning shared the sky with a rainbow

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2006/07/LightningAP130706_600x400.jpg

See more incredible pictures of stormy Britain here

Lightning often occurs during heavy storms while rainbows are generally
formed after the rain has stopped, making an appearance of both
simultaneously relatively rare.

The actual electric charge in a flash of lightning comes from
particles from the sun sent out in the solar wind which gather in the
outer atmospheric layers before creating a strike.

Scientists are still divided by what actually causes lightning,
with one theory suggesting falling droplets of ice and rain become
electrically polarised as they fall through the natural electric field
in the Earth's atmosphere.

This would explain why lightning often accompanies storms and heavy
rain. The same droplets also cause the rainbow, when light from the sun
is refracted by the water to cause a spectrum.

Panning... ♫♫♫

Panning... ♫♫♫

Photography taken in Nusa Dua
Bali – Indonesia

The photograph was taken handheld, panning the action of this heron was too deathly fast to have any hope of freezing the entire bird body and head in full-flight action. To take pictures of moving subjects we have several options. The most obvious is to select a fast shutter speed to freeze the subject but then in this case due to the light available at that precisely timing I would lose all the details on its face coz the picture would be too dark. Also if you stop a moving bird in its flight it will look static and lack impact. A better technique is to select a slower speed (in this case at 0.006 sec - 1/160) and I followed the bird as I took the photograph and my focus was aimed at the bird’s eye (btw you can see it is very sharp and I didn’t lost the red color). This is panning.
